CHENGDU (CHINA), 15 April 2017 – Badminton Australia announced today the appointment of Crown Group as the new title sponsor of the Crown Group Australian Badminton Open which will be held at Sydney Olympic Park from 20 to 25 June. The international launch event, held in China’s Sichuan province at the Chengdu High-tech Zone Jingrong Start-up Hub, was supported by a range of dignitaries and officials.
CEO and co-founder of Crown Group, Paul Sathio, is known for his own keen interest in the sport. Commenting on the significance of this partnership to his company, he reflected on Crown Group’s ongoing regional engagement. “Crown Group is proud to be associated so closely with the Australian Badminton Open, which we have supported since 2012 due to the keen interest of our own commercial and residential property clients. Today’s announcement is the culmination of a relationship which dates back to the early days of the event, before it became a marquee feature of the Superseries program.”
A range of important local dignitaries attended the launch event in the capital city of China’s Sichuan province. These included: Mr Xu Guan, Director of the Social Development Bureau of Social Affairs; Mr Xiang Zong, Section Chief of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Social Affairs; Mr Hongtao Chen, President of Chengdu Heshun Group; Mr Xingdong Chen, President of the Sichuan Institute of Sports Skills; and Ms Li Han, Head Coach of the Sichuan Badminton Centre and an Olympic Champion.
Badminton Australia Board member and Tournament Director, Loke Poh Wong, was also in attendance.
