2016 Day 2 - Round of 32 - Evening Session - One in, one out

In men's doubles China's two seeded pairs were in battle at the same time.

The higher ranked pair made up of the London gold medallists for men's and mixed doubles, Fu Haifeng / Zhang Nan, were slightly steadier in the opening game the world #15 Japanese Takeshi Kamura / Keigo Sonodo to take it 21-17.

Buoyed by this confidence and seeing nothing especially varied in the second game from their opponents, the Chinese experimented with unexpected shot selection around the net and mid-court which paid off in quickening their securing of victory, 21-8.

Third seeded compatriots Chai Biao / Hong Wei yielded to Taiwan's Chen Hung Ling / Wang Chi-Lin in match where the latter were simply fresher and calmer, 21-16, 8-21, 21-17. A brief resurgence in the second game wasn't able to totally rattle the very experienced Chen who quietly created a couple of crucial winners and also let his Chinese opponents give him a few quick free points at the tense closing stages of the deciding game.
