Call for Line Judge Volunteers (FULL)

2016 Australian Badminton Open 

07-12 June, Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre

We are inviting expressions of interest for Line Judge Volunteers from Australia and around the world. This is a wonderful opportunity to be a participant, not just a spectator, at one of the best Superseries tournaments in the world. In the words of a line judge volunteer, this is “an experience that money cannot buy.”

Line Judge volunteers must be:

1. At least 16 years of age (BWF requirement)

2. Available for duty during the following hours:

Line judges for Sat and Sun will be selected from those who attended the sessions earlier in the week. We will select the best line judges from among the team to deliver the semi-finals and finals.

All line judge volunteers will be provided with 

• an entry pass (which is to be surrendered when not on duty)

• a line judge's uniform (to be worn when using the Line Judge pass. Do note that you are expected to have your own plain black dress pants, not  jeans, and plain black shoes.)

• refreshment and meals (when on duty)



All LJ volunteers from NSW/ACT must be able to attend these training sessions (TBC at various venues in the Sydney Olympic Park area):

Introduction to Line Judging

Sat, 6 Feb, 12 – 2 pm

 For new line judges only (experienced line judges, please come and help)

Practice I

Sun, 7 Feb, 10 am – 12 noon

Compulsory for all

Practice II

Mid-March (TBC)

Compulsory for all

Practice III

Sun, 1 May, 12 – 2 pm

Compulsory for all

Practice IV

Sun, 29 May, 12 – 2 pm

Compulsory for all

 Volunteers will be assessed at these training sessions to ensure that they meet the standards of line judging required in an international tournament. 



Line judge volunteers from outside of NSW/ACT must provide evidence of state or national experience from their respective technical officials’ association, and meet their own travel expenses for this event. Badminton Australia will book accommodation on their behalf at specially-negotiated rates at partner hotels. There is a possibility that subsidized accommodation will be provided for interstate and international line judges. Please register your interest, and we will advise at a later date.
